Where to spot

How to spot
Listen for its characteristic, often short and repetitive, calls. Focus your observations on very dense low vegetation, especially bamboo thickets or tangled vines, as it hops on the ground.
When to spot

It is named after the Mérida Andes mountain range in Venezuela, to which it is largely endemic.
