Spotted
The Masked Yellowthroat is a distinctive South American warbler with a bright yellow throat and breast, olive-green upperparts, and a prominent black mask in males. Females are duller and lack the mask.
Where to spot
Widely distributed in South America, with populations found from Colombia and Venezuela south to parts of Argentina and Brazil.
How to spot
Look in marshes, reedbeds, wet grasslands, and along the edges of ponds and streams. They often stay hidden in dense vegetation but can be lured out by playback or a patient wait. Listen for their sharp calls and varied songs.
