The Golden-crowned Warbler is a widespread warbler with an olive-green back, bright yellow underparts, and a distinctive black-bordered golden-yellow crown stripe.
Where to spot
Resident from northern Mexico south through Central America to northern South America (Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina).
How to spot
Look in the understory of humid deciduous, evergreen, and mixed forests. It forages actively, often near the ground. Listen for its distinctive song, which varies geographically but often includes a series of accelerating "chip" notes.
When to spot
Can be observed year-round within its extensive resident range. More vocal during the local breeding season.
