A large, dark blue thrush with iridescent spangles, endemic to the Western Ghats of India. It is famous for its human-like whistling song.
Where to spot
Evergreen forests and dense bamboo thickets, especially near streams and rivers, in the Western Ghats and parts of central India.
How to spot
Listen for its loud, clear whistling song. It often perches prominently on rocks in streams or on low branches nearby.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most vocal in the early morning and late afternoon.
