Spotted
The Kirtland's Warbler is a rare and highly sought-after warbler, with a bluish-gray back, bright yellow underparts, black streaks on its flanks, and a prominent white eye-ring.
Where to spot
Breeds almost exclusively in a small area of the northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan (USA). Winters in the Bahamas.
How to spot
Requires visiting specific jack pine habitat managed for its conservation. Listen for its loud, distinctive "chip-chip-chip-chur-chur-chur" song. Patience and guidance from local experts are essential.
When to spot
Best observed on its breeding grounds in Michigan from late May to early July. Access is often restricted to managed tours during this period to protect the species.
