Spotted
The Black-chested Yellowthroat is a striking and endangered warbler, with a bright yellow throat, olive-green back, and a broad black band across its chest in males. Females are similar but lack the black chest band.
Where to spot
Endemic to a few localized wetlands in central Mexico (States of Mexico, Michoacán, and Jalisco).
How to spot
Seek it in emergent vegetation of freshwater marshes and reedy swamps. Due to its rarity, observation is challenging. Patience and knowledge of its specific habitat are key.
When to spot
Observable year-round within its highly restricted resident range. Most vocal during the local breeding season.
