Where to spot
Resident in the Andes Mountains of southern Ecuador and northern Peru.
How to spot
Look in humid montane forests, particularly where there is dense bamboo or undergrowth. It often forages low. Listen for its rapid, somewhat accelerating song.
When to spot
Can be observed year-round within its resident montane forest habitats. More vocal during the local breeding season.
This species is often found in the dense undergrowth and bamboo thickets of Andean cloud forests, making it a challenging bird to spot despite its colorful markings.
