Spotted
A small warbler with plain sandy-brown upperparts and a pale greyish-white belly, characterized by a faint supercilium and a rather long tail for an eremomela.
Where to spot
Arid and semi-arid scrubland, particularly the Karoo biome, in South Africa and southern Namibia.
How to spot
Look for its plain, sandy plumage and active foraging in low bushes. Its song is a characteristic high-pitched, rather metallic trill or churring series of notes.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most vocal during the breeding season (austral spring/summer).
The Karoo Eremomela is well-named, being a characteristic species of the dry, scrubby Karoo biome of South Africa, where it is often the most abundant small bird in suitable habitats.
