A highly restricted-range species, the Iringa Akalat is a secretive inhabitant of humid montane forests. It is an important endemic bird of Tanzania.
Where to spot
Endemic to specific forest patches in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania, particularly around Iringa.
How to spot
Listen for its calls and songs, as it remains hidden in dense tangles and leaf litter. Stillness and patience are key.
When to spot
Active throughout the day but most vocal in the morning. Present year-round.
This species is named after ornithologist Percy Lowe. It is often hard to see, blending well into the forest undergrowth.
