Spotted
The White-rumped Babbler is a distinctive species found in the arid and semi-arid regions of North and East Africa. It is characterized by its prominent white rump patch, contrasting with otherwise brownish plumage.
Where to spot
Widespread across North Africa, the Sahel, and parts of East Africa. Inhabits arid scrubland, acacia woodlands, dry wadis, and semi-desert habitats.
How to spot
Listen for its loud, harsh, and often chattering calls. Look for groups of brownish birds, noting the prominent white rump when they fly or turn. Its habitat preference and calls are also good indicators.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active during the cooler parts of the day, particularly early morning and late afternoon. Often observed in small to medium-sized noisy groups.
