The Omei Liocichla is a distinctive and rather shy babbler endemic to a small region in Sichuan, China. It is characterized by its olive-green plumage, bright red and yellow wing patches, and a prominent yellow eye-ring.
Where to spot
Endemic to a small mountainous region in Sichuan, China. Inhabits dense undergrowth of montane evergreen and mixed forests, particularly bamboo thickets, at moderate to high elevations.
How to spot
Listen for its clear, melodious, and varied whistling calls. Look for it moving secretively through dense foliage. Its bright wing patches and yellow eye-ring are key identification features, though often obscured.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most vocal during the breeding season (spring/early summer). Best observed in the early morning or late afternoon.
