Extinct. Historically endemic to the North Island of New Zealand, inhabiting dense native forests, particularly mature podocarp and beech forests.
How to spot
Observation is no longer possible in nature. Historically, they were known for their rich, melodic calls and would often forage in pairs, using their specialized bills to extract insects from wood.

Extinct. The last confirmed sighting was in 1907. Cannot be observed in the wild today.
