The Henderson Fruit-dove (Ptilinopus insularis) is a highly localized and unique fruit-dove endemic to the remote and uninhabited Henderson Island, part of the Pitcairn Group in the South Pacific.
Where to spot
Confined exclusively to the unique raised coral forests and dense vegetation of Henderson Island.
How to spot
Access to Henderson Island is extremely restricted, typically requiring a permit. Look for it foraging among the dense, often stunted, forest vegetation, where it can be surprisingly elusive despite its limited range.
When to spot
Active throughout the year, often seen foraging during the morning and late afternoon. Requires special expeditions to its remote island home.
