Spotted
The White-bellied Thrush is a relatively large, dark thrush with a contrasting pale belly, endemic to the Solomon Islands. It is often found in dense montane forests.
Where to spot
Montane rainforests of Guadalcanal and Malaita in the Solomon Islands, typically at higher elevations.
How to spot
Focus on the dense undergrowth and leaf litter in humid montane forests. Its dark upperparts and shy nature make it challenging to spot. Listen for its calls.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Active during early mornings and late afternoons, often foraging on the forest floor.
Like many island endemics, its populations are vulnerable to habitat alteration and introduced predators, making conservation efforts crucial.
