The Grey-throated White-eye is a species endemic to New Caledonia. It is a small, active bird with a prominent white eye-ring and distinctive grey throat, contrasting with yellowish underparts.
Where to spot
Endemic to New Caledonia, inhabiting forests, particularly montane forests, and dense scrub.
How to spot
Look for small, active birds moving through the canopy and mid-story. Identify by the grey throat and white eye-ring. Listen for their high-pitched, twittering calls.
When to spot
Active year-round. Most visible during early morning and late afternoon when foraging.
This species is a good example of island endemism, having evolved unique plumage characteristics in isolation on New Caledonia.
