Spotted
The White-naped Yuhina is a distinctive species found in the eastern Himalayas and northern Southeast Asia. It is characterized by its prominent white patch on the nape.
Where to spot
Ranges from northeast India through northern Myanmar, northern Thailand, Laos, and southern China. Inhabits montane evergreen forests, especially broadleaf forests with bamboo, at mid-elevations.
How to spot
Look for its striking white nape patch contrasting with a darker crown and greyish body. Often found in small, active flocks, moving through dense undergrowth. Listen for its high-pitched, metallic calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active during the day. More easily located by its calls during the breeding season (spring-summer).
The contrasting white nape patch is a clear visual cue for identifying this species, especially as it moves through the dappled light of the forest.
