The Grey-breasted Partridge is an elusive and shy forest bird found in Sumatra. Its subtly marked plumage allows it to blend well with its forest environment.
Where to spot
Inhabits the montane forests of Sumatra, Indonesia, particularly in the northern and central parts of the island.
How to spot
Locating this species requires significant patience and quiet movement. Focus on listening for its soft calls and scanning areas of dense forest floor, especially where there is ample leaf litter.
When to spot
Best chances for observation are at dawn and dusk when these birds are most active foraging for food.
Also sometimes referred to as the Eastern Partidge, this species is highly skilled at remaining undetected amidst the dense forest undergrowth.
