The Golden-olive Woodpecker is a medium-sized species, characterized by its olive-green plumage with a golden sheen. It is a widespread resident of various wooded habitats in the Neotropics.
Where to spot
Widespread across Central and South America, from Mexico to northern Argentina. Inhabits humid forests, woodlands, coffee plantations, and even suburban areas with trees.
How to spot
Look for its olive-green plumage with a golden sheen. Males have a red malar stripe. Listen for its loud, rapid, rattling calls and typical drumming on trees.
When to spot
Active throughout daylight hours, observable year-round. It is often conspicuous when foraging or vocalizing, particularly in the mornings.
