Spotted
The Blue-headed Robin is a striking bird endemic to the Arfak Mountains of New Guinea, known for the male's vibrant blue head and upperparts. It is a unique and somewhat elusive member of the Petroicidae family.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Arfak Mountains in West Papua, Indonesia, inhabiting primary montane rainforests, usually at higher elevations (above 2,000 meters).
How to spot
Requires visiting its specific, remote mountain habitat. Look for the male's distinct blue head and back. It typically forages in the understory and lower canopy. Listen for its thin, high-pitched calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active during daylight, but its elusive nature and dense habitat make it challenging to spot. Early mornings might offer better chances.
