Spotted
The Two-spotted Robin is a rare and elusive species from the highlands of New Guinea, named for the subtle spots on its wings. It is a secretive inhabitant of dense montane forests.
Where to spot
Endemic to the central highlands of New Guinea, found in dense montane rainforests and moss forests, typically at high elevations.
How to spot
This is an extremely challenging bird to find. Focus on the darkest, densest parts of moss forests. Listen for any soft rustling or faint calls, and be prepared for long periods of quiet observation.
When to spot
Resident year-round, but very difficult to observe due to its elusive nature and habitat. Patience and luck are paramount.
Due to its rarity and preference for very dense, high-altitude habitats, the Two-spotted Robin remains one of the least studied and most enigmatic robins of New Guinea.
