Where to spot
Widespread across sub-Saharan Africa, inhabiting a wide variety of habitats including savannas, woodlands, cultivated areas, and urban parks.
How to spot
Its brilliant overall blue-green iridescence and prominent blue 'ear' patches are distinctive. Look for them on the ground, in trees, or on structures. They are quite common and vocal.
When to spot
Easily observed throughout the day, as they are often foraging in open areas or perched conspicuously. Resident, with some local or regional movements.
Like many glossy starlings, this species often engages in spectacular murmurations, forming large, coordinated flocks in the sky, especially at dusk.
