Where to spot
Grasslands, savannas, and agricultural areas of southern Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, and central Argentina, generally below 1,000 meters.
How to spot
Look for its large size and robust bill. It often forages on the ground. Listen for its loud and distinctive song, which is a key identification clue for this species in open habitats.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Males are highly vocal during the breeding season (austral spring/summer), enhancing observation opportunities.
