The Blue-grey Saltator is a common and widespread songbird found across much of eastern South America. It is characterized by its bluish-gray upperparts, paler underparts, and a subtle white supercilium, giving it a somewhat uniform appearance.
Where to spot
Widespread across eastern and central South America, including Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, and northern Argentina. Inhabits forest edges, clearings, second growth, scrub, parks, and gardens.
How to spot
Look for its overall bluish-gray plumage with a hint of olive on the back. Listen for its loud, clear, whistled song, often a series of repeated phrases. Often seen foraging in pairs or small groups in trees and shrubs.
When to spot
Active year-round. Most vocal during the breeding season (varies regionally) and during early morning.
