The Barbados Bullfinch is a small, distinctive songbird endemic to the island of Barbados. Males are characterized by their dark, slate-gray plumage with reddish-orange patches on the throat and undertail, while females are duller. It is a common and conspicuous resident across the island.
Where to spot
Endemic to Barbados, found in nearly all habitats, including gardens, parks, cultivated areas, scrub, and woodlands, even in urban environments.
How to spot
Look for its overall dark appearance with orange-red accents. Observe its bold, inquisitive behavior. Listen for its varied, often chirping and whistling calls and simple song. Easily found in any green space.
When to spot
Active year-round. Most active and vocal during the early morning and late afternoon.
