Spotted
The Greyish Mourner is a medium-sized Cotinga (not a flycatcher) with a generally gray plumage and a preference for humid lowland forests. It is known for its subtle, often drawn-out vocalizations.
Where to spot
Found in the mid-story and sub-canopy of humid lowland forests and forest edges across northern South America, including Venezuela, the Guianas, Brazil, and parts of Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
How to spot
Listen for its soft, whistled, and often descending calls. Look for its uniformly gray plumage, often perched quietly and motionless high in the trees.
When to spot
Active throughout the day, often vocal in the mornings and late afternoons. Observable year-round in its resident range.

Its drab plumage makes it difficult to spot against the forest background, but its distinctive, often descending whistled calls are a strong clue to its presence.
