Formerly considered a subspecies of the Short-billed Pigeon, Goodson's Pigeon is now recognized by some authorities as a distinct species. It is a dark, forest-dwelling pigeon endemic to western South America.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Pacific slope of western Ecuador and southwestern Colombia, inhabiting humid lowland and foothill forests. It is generally found at elevations from sea level up to around 1,500 meters.
How to spot
Similar to the Short-billed Pigeon, look for it quietly perched in the forest canopy. Identifying features might include subtle plumage differences or nuances in vocalizations compared to typical Short-billed Pigeons from other regions.
