The Golden Whistler is a widespread and strikingly beautiful songbird found across Australia, New Guinea, and various Pacific islands. Males are renowned for their brilliant yellow and black plumage and powerful, melodic songs.

How to spot
Males are unmistakable with bright yellow underparts, black head, white throat, and often a black breast band. Females are duller. Listen for its loud, clear, and varied whistling song, often ending with an explosive 'wit-choo!'
When to spot
Year-round resident in most areas, though some southern populations are migratory. Most vocal during the breeding season (spring and summer in temperate regions), but can be heard throughout the year.
