The Cayenne Euphonia is a small, vibrant finch found in northern South America. Males have glossy blue-black upperparts, a yellow forehead, and bright yellow underparts, similar to Finsch's Euphonia but with geographical distinction.
Where to spot
Found in humid lowlands and foothills of the Guianas (French Guiana, Suriname, Guyana) and adjacent parts of northeastern Brazil. It prefers forest edges, clearings, and plantations.
How to spot
Look for this bird in the mid-story and canopy of open woodlands and forest edges, especially where fruiting trees are present. The male's yellow forehead and black and yellow body are distinct. Listen for its high-pitched, short, and varied calls.
