Spotted
The Spectacled Finch is a distinctive finch named for the bold pale spectacles around its eyes. Males are generally brown with a pinkish flush, and females are duller.
Where to spot
Found in the Himalayas, including parts of India, Nepal, Bhutan, and China. It inhabits temperate forests, often near rhododendron or conifer stands, typically at high elevations.
How to spot
Scan the canopy and mid-story of montane forests. The pale eye-rings are a key identification feature. Listen for their quiet contact calls.
When to spot
Visible year-round in its resident range, though it may move to slightly lower elevations during severe winter conditions. Breeding season is spring/summer.
