Spotted
A beautiful and active warbler, the Golden-fronted Redstart showcases a striking pattern of black, white, and a bright golden-orange forecrown. It's a common and conspicuous resident of Andean forests.
Where to spot
Resident in the Andes mountains, from northern Colombia and Venezuela south through Ecuador and into northern Peru. Found in humid montane forests and cloud forests.
How to spot
Look in the mid-story and sub-canopy of montane forests, often near forest edges or streams. They are constantly moving, flicking their wings and fanning their tails to flush insects. Listen for their sharp, chipping calls and varied songs.
When to spot
Observable year-round within its range. Best seen in the early morning when birds are most active.
