The White-winged Cinclodes-finch is a unique, stocky finch-like bird, mostly dark brown with a prominent white wing-stripe, and a longish, strong bill. It resembles a cinclodes in shape.
Where to spot
High-altitude puna grassland, rocky slopes, and often near streams or bogs in the Andes of Peru, Bolivia, and northern Chile.
How to spot
Look for it walking or hopping on the ground, often near water. The dark plumage with a clear white wing stripe is its main identifier.

Year-round resident. Most active during the day, foraging on the ground.
