Where to spot
Endemic to the arid coastal scrub and dry deciduous forests of southwestern Ecuador and northwestern Peru, generally below 500 meters.
How to spot
Look for the male's striking crimson back. It often forages in low, thorny scrub, where its vibrant color will stand out. Its small size and bright color make it a delightful find.
