Spotted
This diminutive hummingbird possesses a unique, slightly decurved bill and often displays subtle iridescent green plumage. It is a resident of high-altitude cloud forests, typically found among dense vegetation.
Where to spot
Humid montane forests and cloud forests in the Andes, ranging from Venezuela south through Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and into Bolivia.
How to spot
Look for its subtle movements in the forest understory or at the edges of clearings. Its slightly curved bill and relatively plain green plumage (compared to other hummers) are useful for identification. It can be quite elusive.
When to spot
Observable year-round. Best during the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late afternoon, when hummingbirds are actively feeding.

Unlike many hummingbirds with straight bills, Geoffroy's Sicklebill's gently curved bill is an adaptation for specialized feeding on certain flowers with curved corollas, enhancing its foraging efficiency.
