The Garnet Pitta is a stunning pitta with a black head, a vibrant blue crown, and a rich, deep red (garnet) belly. It is found in Southeast Asia.
Where to spot
Primary and mature secondary lowland and hill forests, especially in dense undergrowth, across the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, and Borneo.
How to spot
Listen for its characteristic whistled calls. Scan the forest floor for any subtle movement. They are often incredibly shy and blend well with their dark habitat.
When to spot
Year-round. Most vocal during the breeding season. Active during daylight hours.
