Spotted
Fox's Weaver is a small, rather localized weaver bird, with breeding males displaying a yellow plumage and a black face. It is a species of marshy grasslands.
Where to spot
Endemic to a small area of Uganda, primarily around Lake Kyoga and Lake Victoria. Inhabits marshy grasslands, papyrus swamps, and reedbeds.
How to spot
Look for its yellow plumage and black face (in breeding males). Search marshy areas and reedbeds. Listen for its typical weaver calls.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Breeding activity is most prominent during the rainy season, when males are in their brightest plumage and are actively building nests.
Named after Harold Monro Fox, a British zoologist. This species has a restricted distribution, making it a target for birdwatchers seeking regional endemics.
