Where to spot
Endemic to New Guinea, inhabiting lowland and lower montane rainforests, primarily in the northern and western parts of the island.
How to spot
Look for its olive-green upperparts and distinctive fawn or buffy breast, contrasting with a paler belly. Listen for its beautiful, varied, and melodious whistling songs, typical of the whistler family.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most vocal during the breeding season, but generally active throughout the day, particularly mornings and late afternoons.
This species can be quite secretive, often staying hidden in the dense canopy, making its melodious calls crucial for its detection.
