Spotted
Biddulph's Ground Jay is a distinctive and rare corvid found in the deserts of Central Asia, known for its specialized adaptations to arid environments. It is a largely terrestrial bird with a striking appearance.
Where to spot
Inhabits the arid deserts and semi-deserts of Central Asia, particularly in western China (Xinjiang) and adjacent areas, preferring sandy and gravelly plains with sparse vegetation.
How to spot
Spotting this bird requires searching vast desert landscapes. Look for it foraging on the ground, often running between sparse bushes. Its unique plumage provides camouflage against the desert floor.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Best observed during daylight hours, especially in the early morning and late afternoon when temperatures are milder and they are actively foraging.

This species is sometimes considered a sub-species of Henderson's Ground Jay or is closely related, but it is often distinguished by its more rufous-brown tones and specific desert habitat.
