The Emperor Goose is a stunning arctic goose with striking grey and white plumage and a distinct short, pink bill. It breeds exclusively in coastal Alaska and parts of Russia, known for its strong association with marine environments.
Where to spot
Breeds along the Bering Sea coast of Alaska and eastern Siberia. Winters along the Aleutian Islands and south Alaska Peninsula. Look for them on coastal tundra, beaches, and shallow marine waters.
How to spot
Easily identified by its pale grey body, white head and nape (often stained orange by iron-rich water), and a short, pink bill. Look for them foraging along coastlines or resting on offshore ice floes.
When to spot
Best observed during their breeding season (late spring to early summer) in the Arctic, or during wintering months (late autumn to early spring) along the coasts of Alaska.
