The Eastern Greylag Goose is a subspecies of the Greylag Goose found across Central Asia. It shares many characteristics with its western counterpart but often exhibits a slightly paler plumage and a more reddish bill.
Where to spot
Breeds from Central Asia eastward through Russia and China. Winters south to India, Pakistan, and parts of Southeast Asia. Look for them in large wetlands, steppes, and agricultural areas.
How to spot
Similar to the Western Greylag Goose but look for a slightly paler body plumage and a distinctly redder, rather than orange, bill. Observe its strong, direct flight and listen for loud honking calls.
When to spot
Best observed during spring and summer in breeding grounds, and during autumn and winter in migratory staging and wintering areas.
