Spotted
This unusual hybrid combines a goose (Greylag) and a swan (Mute), resulting in a bird with intermediate size and features. It might show a swan-like neck but with goose-like body proportions and plumage, possibly with a knobbed bill.
Where to spot
Primarily in parks, urban ponds, or large country estates where both Greylag Geese and Mute Swans are kept or frequently visit. Wild encounters are exceptionally rare.
How to spot
Look for large waterfowl that don't quite fit either a typical goose or swan description. It might have the body size of a large goose but a longer neck of a swan, or a Mute Swan's orange bill with a prominent black knob, but with greyish, goose-like plumage.
When to spot
Year-round in areas of human habitation or captive collections. Wild occurrences would be purely opportunistic.
