The Minor Batis is a small, active bird often found in dry woodlands and scrub. Males have a black mask, white supercilium, and a black breast band, while females typically show a rufous breast band.
Where to spot
Widespread across East and Southern Africa, from Somalia and Ethiopia south to parts of Tanzania. Inhabits dry savannas, acacia woodlands, and scrublands.
How to spot
Look for them actively moving through bushes and trees in dry habitats. Identify by their typical batis pattern. Listen for their sharp, often repeated 'tsip-tsip' or 'chip-chip' calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active throughout the day.
