Spotted
The Scaled Anabazenops is a medium-sized Furnariid named for the scale-like pattern on its underparts. It is an active foliage-gleaner of humid forests.
Where to spot
Found in humid lowland and foothill forests of the eastern Andes, including parts of Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil.
How to spot
Look for it in the mid-story of humid forests, often moving with mixed-species flocks. Its scaled underparts and active gleaning behavior are key identification features. Listen for its distinct calls.
When to spot
Active year-round. Most observable in early mornings as part of mixed-species foraging flocks.
This species is known to forage by carefully inspecting dead leaves and bark, often tearing them apart to find hidden insects, a typical behavior of many foliage-gleaners.
