The Rusty-crowned Spinetail is a small Furnariid characterized by a distinct rufous crown patch. It is a common species of humid montane forests.
Where to spot
Widespread in humid montane forests and cloud forests along the Andes, from Venezuela south through Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia.
How to spot
Look for it foraging in the understory and mid-story, often near forest edges or clearings. The rufous crown is the most important feature to spot.
When to spot
Most active during the early morning and late afternoon. It is a resident species, observable year-round.
