How to spot
Seek out high-altitude bogs and wet grasslands. Use a spotting scope for distant views as they can be shy. Look for its distinctive head pattern, which includes a black 'diadem' or band.
When to spot
Primarily during the austral summer (November to March) when conditions are most favorable for breeding. Less common in winter as they move to slightly lower elevations.
