Spotted
The Desert Rosefinch is a striking finch adapted to arid environments, featuring a male with beautiful rosy-pink plumage and a prominent black mask. Females are sandy-brown with subtle pinkish washes.
Where to spot
Found across a wide range of arid and semi-arid regions from the Middle East through Central Asia to western China. It prefers rocky hillsides, desert steppes, and wadis with sparse vegetation.
How to spot
Scan rocky slopes and open, barren areas. They can be surprisingly inconspicuous despite their bright colors. Look for them near scattered bushes or rock crevices.
When to spot
Visible year-round throughout its range. More active and vocal during the cooler parts of the day, especially in the early morning and late afternoon.

As its name suggests, this rosefinch is remarkably adapted to harsh desert and semi-desert conditions, often found far from obvious water sources.
