Where to spot
Native to East Asia (China, Indochina, Taiwan). Widely introduced in other parts of Asia and North America. Found in urban areas, agricultural lands, and open woodlands.
How to spot
Look for its all-black plumage with a prominent, forward-curving crest on its forehead. Often seen walking on the ground or perching conspicuously in urban environments.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Active and conspicuous throughout the day.
