Spotted
A rare and critically endangered black and white myna with a yellowish facial patch, endemic to Java and Bali. Its population has suffered severe declines.
Where to spot
Critically endangered, formerly found in open woodlands, agricultural areas, and human settlements on Java and Bali, Indonesia. Very few remain in the wild.
How to spot
Observing this species in the wild is extremely challenging. If encountered, look for its pied black and white plumage and yellowish facial patch, noting its precise location on Java or Bali.
When to spot
Year-round resident, but extremely difficult to observe due to its rarity.
The Javan Pied Myna is one of the most threatened starling species, largely due to trapping for the illegal pet trade and habitat loss.
