Spotted
The Collared Laughingthrush is a rare and striking species endemic to the high mountains of southern Vietnam. It is known for its distinct black and white facial pattern that gives it a 'collared' appearance.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Langbian Plateau in southern Vietnam. Inhabits dense montane evergreen forests and rhododendron scrub at very high elevations, typically above 1,800 meters.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, often repeated, clear whistling calls. Look for it foraging actively in the dense undergrowth or low branches. The bold black and white facial pattern is its most reliable identification mark.
