The Cocha Antshrike is a rare and highly localized species, endemic to a very specific region of the western Amazon. It is a secretive bird of the forest understory.

Dense undergrowth of humid lowland rainforests, particularly near oxbow lakes and meander bends in the western Amazon basin (Peru).
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, accelerating 'tew-tew-tew-tew' call. Observe from a distance with extreme patience, focusing on subtle movements in the thick vegetation. A local guide is highly recommended.
