Inhabits the understory of humid lowland forests across the western Amazon basin, from Colombia and Ecuador to northern Bolivia and western Brazil.

Locate army ant swarms. This species is often very visible and active near the ant front. Its white breast and blue facial skin are excellent field marks.

Year-round resident. Best observed during early morning and late afternoon when army ants are active.
